DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF YOUR GOALS

  • Atlanta Day 1 - The Long Drive
  • Atlanta Day 2 - The "Homework" Day
  • Atlanta Day 3 - Practice Day
  • Atlanta Day 5 - The Championship

We started off even earlier than yesterday (6:50) and made it to the GWCC by 7:30.

Unloading the machines The day looked good.. at first

As the opening ceremonies started we got our first glimpse at the size of this event with most of the spectators all on one side. We heard speeches from Dr. Woodie Flowers and Dean Kamen then saw some awards be handed out. We also learned that one of the Judges is Steve Wozniak - Co-founder of Apple (Phil *splodes*).

It wasn't long before our first match and it was really exciting. In this match the Walrus capped 8 tetras and we won 51-26. It made us really excited at first.

    Capping the final tetra VICTORIOUS

In between matches we got on the practice field and got attacked by "The Cool Squad" (Team 25) who was armed with Airzookas.

    KOOL

We headed out for the next match with high expectations, but it wasn't so. The autonomous mode worked fine but when human-controlled mode started something happened with one of the connections to the battery (it had to do with the new terminals we were using I think - not like what happened in Mississauga). But at any rate we were useless for the whole match. What was really annoying is that our alliance was good enough that our team nearly won without us.

Aruj going to match Walrus ready to GO.. or so we thought
    Autonomous... at least it worked.

By then it was time for the lunches and a few people, including myself, went to the in-house restaurant It had a restaurant for many countries such as Idaho, America, Georgia, and Asia. This restaurant also had an excellent view of the entire pit area. While eating lunch a rolling thunder also came rolling through. Many people suggested that it was tornados but it was just rain and winds. Lots of rain to begin with. It lasted almost two hours and it left quite a bit of puddles and humidity.

The deep plunge Yeah, you thought it was rain. And it was!

Our third match things were working again but we simply lost (29-37). The whole match was very close but the opposing alliance making it back to their starting zone as opposed to us not doing it, which made the difference.

The fourth match was also very close and we did very well. The worst part though was that they got behind on their scorekeeping, and we waited through three matches before they announced that we won. Unfortunately we didn't get a score though. By that time my muffin had achieved a quarter of its half-life back at the hotel.

See the video of match 55 where we found out later that we won.

    It's killing a pixy

Our last match we dropped two tetras and the other team just managed to control the goals better than us. We ended up losing 47-28. In the last second the other team prevented us from capping our home team's row center goal which would have eliminated two of their rows.

Here's one you haven't seen before

So then we went back to the hotel and decided we'd stay in and eat some pizzas. Fun. At the end of today we are in 49th place with a 2-3-0 record. Tomorrow is our last day of competition this year. Go tetras!
